Hey guys!

It’s been well over a year since I posted anything on this site. Anyway, recently I needed to find a way to transfer a long list of site configuration data from a Windows installation of FileZilla, the FTP client, to an Ubuntu 12.04 installation of the same FTP client.

In case you ever find yourself in a similar situation, here is how to do it:-

In my case, both Windows and Ubuntu had version 3.x of FileZilla installed. In version 2.x, you needed to copy the %APPDATA%FileZilla contents found in your Windows installation to the .filezilla folder found in your Ubuntu home directory. That’s not the case with version 3.x. In version 3.x, there is a pretty easy way to import your Windows installation settings to Ubuntu.

Make sure to mount the Windows installation directory under Ubuntu, run FileZilla 3.x, go to File > Import and browse to the %APPDATA%FileZilla directory (in Windows XP, if your Windows installation directory is C: , then you should go to C:Documents and SettingsUsernameApplication DataFileZilla) and select sitemanager.xml.

That’s it. It’ll successfully import all your site configuration data to your Ubuntu installation of the FileZilla FTP client.
